Real Housewives of New York City veteran, Luann de Lesseps, drunkenly took over the mic at a gay piano bar, belting out tunes and repeatedly telling booing patrons, “fuck you”, before she was eventually kicked out. But of course, there are always two sides to these stories, and in this case, three.
THEIR SIDE: Witnesses are telling the media that on Wednesday night, Luann monopolized the mic and piano at "Townhouse", a quaint gay piano bar in NYC. The 56-year-old reality star, who performs her own “Countess Cabaret” show, already seemed sozzled when she showed up at the popular after hours haunt. She grabbed the mic and simply wouldn’t stop, says one source: “Luann thought she was doing her act. Trouble began when after being urged to perform, Luann requested the small band play her first hit, Money Can’t Buy You Class, but the pianist didn’t know it. Luann responded "It's a hit!". Undeterred, the totally sloshed de lesseps started belting out jumbled versions her songs. It eventually became so intolerable that the crowd began heckling and booing her. Things then took a turn for the worse when Luann began yelling at the crowd, ‘You don’t know me! I’m a cabaret star!'. At first, people were actually laughing and enjoying the banter, but then things suddenly turned ugly, when Luann, in a crude and un-countess-like move started slurring and snarling at the crowd, repeatedly yelling “fuck you”. Management eventually wrestled the mic out of de Lesseps' hand, and began leading her back to the table, and eventually to the door.
On Thursday, after undoubtedly realizing what she had done, a rep for Luann reached out to Page Six and a read a statement from Luann.
LUANN'S SIDE: “I was at rehearsals all day yesterday for her upcoming cabaret show at Feinstein’s/54 Below, then went to dinner with Broadway producers. We were in a celebratory mood, drinking champagne, and decided to go to Townhouse with Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots producer Jim Kierstead around 10:30 p.m. There were a bunch of people singing, and it was a fun, boisterous crowd. Kierstead suggested I sing a few songs, so I got up and sang a few Broadway songs they were playing. I realized I was a little bit tipsy, but we were having fun, and it was getting late. I’d been rehearsing, and I was in the mood to sing a few songs. Then Jim said to me, ‘Lu, I have an early rehearsal,’ and then we left around midnight, actually 11:30 p.m.. End of story".
Also on Thursday, the media caught up with Kierstead, who trivialized the evening even more. “After a birthday party for a NY theatre personality, Luann de Lesseps and I went to the Townhouse for a nightcap. She was met by legions of her fans and was convinced to sing for them. I was finally able to bring her home as I had an early morning Thursday for the workshop of a new musical. Of course she was the belle of the ball as usual.". A friend of de Lesseps adds that when it comes to staying on the wagon, she has been “trying to stay healthy and takes things day by day.”.
As fans know, de Lesseps was arrested in 2017 in Palm Beach, Fla., on Christmas Eve for being drunk and disorderly, assaulting a police officer, and yelling, “I am going to kill you all.”. She plead guilty to battery, trespassing and disorderly intoxication in exchange for the felony charge against her. The troubles reality star was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service (with at least 10 hours per month) and attend two AA meetings a week in New York per the deal. She then went to rehab and has continued having extra help with her sobriety over the years. In December, de Lesseps launched a nonalcoholic wine, Fosé Rosé, which she is promoting.
