What About Sonja?

Casting rumors about the Real Housewives of New York City season 14 are swirling again ... emphasis on “rumor”, so take this one with a grain of salt. An Instagram account with the snappy name of Dorinda Deadly has started a rumor that has grown legs (I guess Deux Moi got it wrong one too many times).

Anyway, this chick (or dude) is reporting that Ramona Singer and Luann De Lesseps are the only two returning for season 14.  Both women have been on the show since it started way back in March of 2008, although technically, Luann lost her apple on season 6 (but appeared in every episode regardless). At the time, both Ramona and Luann were married with children, and living the anything but typical lives of New York City housewives. But as seasons progressed, the show began to focus more on the relationships between the women, rather than their families. Ramona, 65, eventually ended her 25 year marriage, and Luann, 56, divorced, famously got married, and divorced again.

RHONY had consistently enjoyed high ratings up until season 12, when Bethenny Frankel left the show (unexpectantly) for the second time. Leah McSweeney joined the cast in Bethenny's place, but fans took an immediate disliking to her, and ratings plummeted.  Then to make matters worse, Eboni K. Williams joined the show for season 13, and was hailed as RHONY'S first black(ish) cast member, but her neverending sermonizing about racial injustice race baiting turned off viewers, and as a result ratings for RHONY fell to an all time low; so low that they skipped the reunion shows entirely.  Too bad, because as annoying as Eboni was, I thought there have been much worse, and I actually liked her.   In fact, I didn't think the season was nearly as bad as many fans apparently thought.

Besides Ramona and Luann returning for season 14, five new women are reportedly in talks to join the cast.  Those women include Lucia Hwong Gordon, June Ambrose, Carolina Bermudez, Kamela Forbes-Matheson, and Sandra Ripert.  It sounds like a literal ethnic smorgasboasrd, but that is what New York City always has been, so I'm down.  Long-time fans of RHONY may remember Lucia, who is a close friend of both Ramona and Sonja's.  As for the rumors surrounding Dorinda Medley and Jill Zarin's return, it doesn't seem like they will be joining season 14, at least not for this upcoming season.

As fans of the show know, the collectve "cancel culture" has been campaigning rather loudly to have Ramona fired, but to his credit, it looks like Andy Cohen may be showing actual signs of testicle growth.

At this point, there is no mention of Sonja returning, but I have no doubt whatsoever tht Sonja will return as well, and I suspect that breath of fresh air Bershan Shaw will be given another season (probably an apple), as well ... at least I hope so.
