Back in March, following a disastrous season 13, Andy Cohen announced that one of his most popular franchises in the housewife series was being completely overhauled. Instead of just firing the people whom the viewers clearly hate, Cohen and the other geniuses think that splitting the show into two different series is going to solve their self-imposed problem of incompatibility between cast members. Apparently, just admitting that they fucked up (by mandating "diversity") isn't an option. So now there will be TWO different shows; one featuring our fan favorites, and another featuring an all new black/Asian/Middle Eastern (and God knows whatever else) cast.
Following recent reports that the search is going nowhere, the New York Post is reporting that Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan may be returning to our TV screens sooner than expected. Keep in mind it’s just a report at this point, but it’s one that I am clinging onto for dear life. Sources say that the delightfully zany BFFs will be teaming up for a new show in the iconic The Simple Life.
In case you aren't aware, The Simple Life was one of the first successful reality TV shows that crossed over into mainstream television, bringing in millions of viewers every Sunday night on Fox. The 2003 series saw uber-rich party girls, Paris Hilton and bestie Nicole Richie, trade in their designer wardrobes and glossy Beverly Hills lifestyles for life on a farm, a factory, or a hotel kitchen. It was predictably hilarious, each episode packed with one-liners that are still screenshotted and circulated on Instagram today.
According to the Post’s report, the untitled project will follow de Lesseps and Morgan as they live together in “Middle American towns”, interacting with its “regular folk” residents. It’s a perfect comedic formula for the glam New York City party gals, who have entertained Bravo viewers since 2009 with their antics.
