Rocky Mountain Bye

This week's episode picks up right where last week's left off.  The ladies are still in Aspen, CO where Erika lost her shit over not willingly handing over a pair of $1.3 million dollar earrings, but moreover for refusing to show any compassion for Girardi/Keese's victims.  She tried to explain to the group (mainly Kyle and Crystal) that she too is a "victim left in ruins" in all this, and displaying any kind of emotion could be used against her.  These alleged victims (yes, I'm still going with alleged) are suing HER, so she is not just an observant bystander who can be playing armchair expert in law (like the other women can).  If she is indeed completely innocent as she claims to be, it would be foolhardy for her to show sympathy for her persicuters.  I really don't get why this is so hard for the other ladies to understand, but I think they are finally starting to get it.  What it all boils down to is subscribing to the presumption of innocence.  You either do or you don't.

It's the morning after, and Kyle is very offended after discovering that Erika gathered up all her cotten candy colored skiwear and moved to Diana's hotel, just as Dorit did the previous night.  Sidenote:  Apparently the Umanski's don't believe in setting alarms, even after being cleaned out just a few years ago (while they were in Aspen).  Anyway, Kyle is NOT happy, and it is clear that this is going to be a drama packed 40 minutes.  We also learn (via flashback) after they got Erika out of the house,  Rinna told Erika that it IS possible to show a little compassion for Girardi/Keese's victims without incriminating herself.  But Erika claims that she already has shown enough compassion, because "this is her life bitches!".

So needless to say, the day is not starting out well.  Kyle has closed down her favorite place on Earth, Aspen's Kemo Sabe western gear store, for a private party. BTW, anyone (meaning mere mortals like us) expecting to get trashed on tequila while shopping for high end western gear is going to be disappointed, because although it wasn't made clear, there are no bars at any of the four Kemo Sabe locations. I had to look this up, because I sure don't remember there being a bar at the Jackson Hole location in Wyoming when we visited.

But beforehand, the ladies (and adorable Storm) meet up at a quaint cafe for coffee and coissants before Kyle's event, but Erika, Dorit, and Diana are doing their own thing a few doors down. Already visibly upset, Kyle tells the ladies that Erika left her house, and then Rinna chimes in and confirms that Erika is indeed still pissed off, and has no intention of going to Kyle's event.  Kyle is now full on angry, but at this point you really get a sense that it's more about the show and "not showing up", but of course they can't talk about that because that would be breaking the "fourth wall".  But then like a petulent child, Kyle basically says "F Erika, it's her loss".  Throughout the episode, it was interesting watching the newer cast members watching long time and experienced cast members going at it.

In true housewive fashion, the two opposing teams have now been chosen.  In one corner, we have Erika, Dorit, and Diana, and in the other, it's Kyle, Kathy, Sutton, Garcell, Crystal, and Storm ... and poor Rinna is stuck somewhere in the middle.  Erika is having a slightly better morning than Kyle, as she received news that the case in Chicago has been dropped, although in an oddly misplaced lalking head, Crystal reminds us that the case will probably be re-filed in CA.  So throughout the afternoon, Erika sulks with her group while the other women enjoy a day of shopping Aspen's ridiculously priced boutiques.  It becomes sort of a cat and mouse game as the two groups spot each other through the plate glass windows at the different stores.  At one point, Erika spots a few of the enemy at the window of where she and her gang are, and orders the store keeper to keep the doors locked.  Eventually, Rinna has had enough and decides to go hunt down Erika and her gang.    It all made for a fun scene, but I'm finding it hard to believe that they, meaning production, is going to allow Kunty, Dorit, and Diana to not attend Kyle's "event" .... and of course they aren't.

Back at Kyle's house, Dorit shows up to iron things out with  Kyle, who is now in full "Kyle mode", but thankfully, Stoned Mo' is there to intervene.  They kind of just fluff over it, but Kyle is actually miffed at Dorit for several reasons.  First of all, she's still mad that Dorit left her house to go lap in luxury with Diana at her hotel,  then helped escort Erika out of the house when Kyle was trying to plead with her, and then helped Erika pack her bags and leave Kyle's.  Now she's blowing off Kyle's event to go and comfort "someone who's hurting"? Oh hell to the naw naw naw!

To everyone's delight, Dorit does show up, and with Erika (and Diana) in tow.  Kyle decides to nip things in the bud, and immediately confronts Erika.  Kunty has softened, and together they cry, hug, and make up.  I may be a complete sap, but  again, scenes like this are what separates RHOBH from the others in the series ... these chicks  know how to make all this drama seem very convincing.  Still, Kyle wants Erika to be more sympathetic and maintains that no lawyer would advise her not to be.  Sorry Kyle, you're wrong on this one.

Erika responds, “But when you say that, you're lumping me into responsibility.  I’m not responsible for all of those people. I feel bad for those people, and those who have been legitimately wronged have to be taken care, and that is not going to happen for a while. And right now, everything else is coming at me, and I have a lot to deal with. Am I the most cuddly person right now? No … I’m trying to get through it, and I make mistakes.”.  *Cue the angel choir ... this is what we have all been waiting for Erika to say for the past two seasons.  all wanBut personally, I think it’s too late.

When the entire group reunites, Crystal reminds us that she's still on this show and blurts out to Erika, "I don't like the way you talked to me last night".  But Erika has had enough with backing down for one day, and becomes just as aggressive with Crystal as she did the night before.  She may have to kiss OG/producer Kyle's ass, but she sure as hell doesn't have to kiss Crystal's.  Then in their own talking heads, Sutton and Garcelle express their frustration over Kyle's "quick to forgive" double standard.  Obviously, they do have a point.

With Erika's drama out of the way, the other ladies get the opportunity to earn their paychecks, starting with Kathy.  Case in point; when the tequila begins to flow, she becomes annoyed enraged that her tequila brand, Casa Del Sol, is not being properly promoted by the hired bartenders (and Bravo).  To make matters worse, Lisa then orders a shot of her friend, Kennell Jenner's, private brand, 818.  What infuriates Kathy even more is that Kyle witnesses it, but tells Kathy to just calm down, and don't let it get to her.  But it's too late; Kathy's Republican White privilege has been compromised, and she storms out.  What then follows is a montage of Kathy bringing up her tequila at Diana’s Christmas party, Dorit's SHaron Stone's Homeless Not Toothless "charity event", and Rinna's constant little jabs throughout the season.  Rinna even accuses Kathy of putting her brand behind the (makeshift) bar at Kemo Sabe.

This all makes for a juicy story line that is definitely wetting our appetites for what's still to come, but this is my theory on what's really going on. I think the women (including Kyle) are still mad as hell at Kathy for refusing to film as she held out for more money.  She then shows up halfway through the season with an Aldi shopping bag full oh hrt tequila (as if Lisa doesn't have her own lousy booze to sell).  Then to make matters worse, this evil Conservative bitch is a fan favorite who doesn't even have to expose any of the real crap going on in her life.

The episode ends as the ladies all decide to hit another one of Kyle's favorite Aspen haunts, the Caribou Club, on their way home, where apparently the shit REALLY hits the fan.  We're then teased with a couple of cryptic text messages between Lisa, Kathy, and Erika, and Lisa vowing to expose "the real Kathy Hilton".  Man am I going to be pissed, if all she produces is the infamous pic of Kathy partying with President Trump at Mar a Lago on New Year's Eve (like that's a bad thing).  As you may know, stories have surfaced accusing Kathy of using homophobic and racial slurs at the club. But with only a few episodes left, I have a feeling they are going to save this drama for the reunion, that is if they ever see the light of day at all.
