Raptress Nicki Minaj made Bravo history as the first person to take over hosting duties from Pimp Daddy Andy Cohen for part 4 of the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion. Depending on who you ax, she did great, but others feel like she should stick to corrupting the minds of our impressionable youth.
Minaj began her hosting duties with a disclaimer that she was only coming from a place of sista'ly love, but throughout her hour of questioning, it was clear that she was also coming from a place of calling these bitches on the carpet. Like many viewers, she needed answers, and plenty she got.
Nicki was given permission from Andy to take sides, and while she managed to stay fairly neutral, she was also able to say a lot of things the rest of us have been thinking, and more. There was no sugarcoating. Obviously a fan, she had the passion and the information to back up her often brutally honest questions. Unlike Cohen, Nicki Minaj speaks their language (albeit in a thick Queens, NY accent), so these women were not going to gloss over the tough questions or talk themselves out of their shady behavior throughout the season. Minaj sure as hell wasn’t worried about getting angry texts from any of them (or their )on husbands) once the reunion was over.
A lot of her topics had already been discussed throughout the reunion, and most were no more solved than the first time around. However, there were exceptions. For example, it was interesting seeing Minaj grill Candiace on her debut album as well as her so called talent. She was also able to ask the women provocative questions about their marriages and money, whereas Andy would have been skewered. When topics such as the women’s relationships with their mothers came up, Nicki became more of a therapist, and even somewhat of a (shady) friend.
All in all, I thought this experiment worked really well, and it was easily the best part of an otherwise lackluster reunion (and season in general). What fun it would be seeing other celebrity "superfans" guest hosting the various HW reunions, although it's hard to imagine any other franchise in the series handling the heat as gracefully as these women did. To their credit, the women kept their egos in check, and even seemed to have fun with it.
