When Kenya Moore was first approached to appear on Dancing with the Stars season 30, she made sure to run it past True Entertainment, RHOA’s production company, to make sure there would be no conflicts. Bravo executives reportedly had no problem with it as long as it didn’t conflict with her Real Housewives of Atlanta obligations, filming etc; and actually gave Kenya their blessing.
But once she signed on, that all changed. Bravo executives (and we have to assume that includes executive producer Andy Cohen) were really angry, that they gave Kenya an ultimatum; either film RHOA or DWTS, but not both at the same time.
At the time, Kenya clarified exactly which show she would choose if pushed into a corner. “Well, I guess if there was an ultimatum, I guess we know which one I chose. I’ve always wanted to do this show. I’m here, I’m loving every minute of it. I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. Of course, I love doing Housewives, and having that opportunity, so I think it will work itself out.”
The network’s decision to put Kenya in the tough spot seems quite strange considering many other "housewives" have competed on DWTS, including Erika Jayne and Lisa Vanderpump (RHOBH), and Kim Zolciak-Biermann and NeNe Leakes (RHOA). Lisa Rinna has also competed on DWTS, but that was when she was still pedaling adult diapers, long before she joined RHOBH Even more confusing is that LVP and NeNe's stints on the dancing competition show were heavily featured on their respective shows.
Eyebrows are being raised that Kenya wasn't granted the same grace given to Vanderpump, and some believe this gives credence to NeNe Leakes' accusations that Bravo/NBC/Universal (and Andy Cohen) are racist.
