Kelly Leventhal may be gone, but she’s hardly forgotten. As fans of the Real Housewives of Orange County know, executive producer Andy Cohen finally caved to the CC crowd, letting the outspoken Conservative go.
The show has been struggling for the last few seasons, and changes obviously had to be made, so it was as good a time as any to can a Conservative. It's probably worth mentioning that the Real Housewives of Dallas was canceled shortly thereafter as well, just saying. There was also strong speculation that Heather Dubrow wanted back on he show, but Cohen was going to have to make a choice; either Kelly or Miss Fancy Pants. To be honest, if I had to choose, I probably would have done the same thing.
Kelly is Andy's (and Bravo's) worse nightmare, because she is a loose cannon with nothing to lose. While she readily admits to missing the $500K salary, she’s hardly destitute, as most estimates clock the Leventhals wealth as being in the neighborhood $10M. Besides that, she is undoubtedly making that back (and then some) on the notoriety of NOT being on the show anyway. Still, I'm not sure I buy that she's "happier just commenting on the show", rather than being an active part of it, at least not yet.
However, not being on the show anymore does have its advantages. Kelly's podcast with recently retired Fox News man Rick Leventhal, UNMASKED with Rick and Kelly, is doing very well, and they are building a new palace in Palm Springs, right next door to former cast mate Elizabeth Lyn Vargas’ estate.
Meanwhile, ratings for RHOC continue to drop ... the season 16 premier brought in just over 900K viewers. Check out Kelly and Rick's recap of last week's premier. It's interesting that while Rick kind of trashes it, Kelly defends it.
