Bravo is adding another franchise to the ever expanding Real Housewives series. Of course, it can be debated whether that is necessarily a good thing or not. Series Executive Producer, Andy Cohen, announced Monday that the Real Housewives of Dubai will be the first international city to join the domestic rotation.
The press release read, "Premiering next year as the 11th city in the franchise, the Real Housewives of Dubai highlights a group of women navigating their relationships, careers, and supremely lavish and ultra-wealthy lifestyles in the United Arab Emirates. With the desert paradise of Dubai as a backdrop, this billionaire’s playground is known for its over-the-top opulence, jaw-dropping modern architecture, and exotic wild nightlife scene. Whether they're coasting on a private plane, running their own empires or hosting on a private island, these glamorous, successful women are ready to serve up scorching hot drama and unexpected twists”.
During an appearance on "TODAY", Andy Cohen expressed his excitement was as giddy as a school girl. "Everything's bigger in Dubai, and I couldn't be more excited to launch Bravo's first international Housewives series in a city I've been fascinated by for years, with an outstanding group of friends as our guides … get your passports! Our eleventh city, we're going to the billionaire's playground, the city of gold, the desert oasis!", he said. So far, neither a definite air date or any specific casting has been announced, but a rumored cast photo is currently circulating in the blogosphere. Unfortunately, no Miss (Janet) Jackson rocking a Gucci berka in sight.
As some fans of the Real Housewife series may know, several franchises from around the globe have been airing for years, but because they don't fall under the Bravo umbrella, they have not aired in the US. Some of the cities include The Real Housewives of Melbourne, Auckland, Mebourne, Sydney, Napoli, Thailand, Bangkok, Athens, and several Canadian cities, just to name a few. BTW, few cities enjoyed success; in fact, the vast majority never made it past the first season.
