Tammy Slaton, star of TLC’s 1000-Lb. Sisters, is recovering after she was rushed to the hospital and put in a medically induced coma. Slaton’s brother, Chris, said the 35-year-old reality star was hospitalized, as seen in the TLC show’s season finale, as a result of her having taken a turn for the worse a day after she got to a weight loss rehab facility.
Slaton, who went to the Ohio facility as she was contending with depression, heavy drinking and vaping, had quit breathing after her brother and sister-in-law dropped her off. Slaton's other sister, Amanda, told the media that Tammy's lungs had given up, her body was shutting down, and the family was advised to start making funeral arrangements.
Slaton was put on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma and it was touch and go for awhile, with Chris reporting that doctors told them that they didn’t know if she was going to make it through the night, or even the next hour. But miraculously, Slaton woke up after four days of her family watching over her and said she wanted to go home.
Slaton was then given a tracheotomy to facilitate breathing, and was able to return to rehab three weeks later and had already lost 115 lbs. “We prayed for a miracle and God gave us one,” said Amanda.
Even though the ratings for the 1000-lb Sisters are at an all time high (last Monday's episode brought in 1.5M viewers), TLC has yet to announce that the show has been renewed for season four. Tammy has reportedly expressed that she "has her reservations" about continuing with the show, which obviously means only one thing ... it's time for a huge raise.
